Family Portrait Photography

I believe family portrait photography is about capturing the individual characters, personalities and emotions of families together in a setting that allows you and your family to relax, enjoy and to be yourselves. Images captured in familiar surroundings and beautiful locations have a very special feel about them, and we'll work together to choose a location that suits you.

Portrait session £75.00

On the day of your shoot you'll need to set aside about an hour and a half so we don't feel rushed, I also like to have a relaxed chat beforehand to get to know everyone a bit better. Prior to your session we'll have discussed location possibilities - the shoot can take place at your own home or we can explore nearby woods or fields, or I can suggest a few locations you might like to try. We'll have also talked about what you'd like to wear and the best time of day to photograph your children, any props you'd like to include and generally what you'd like to get out of the experience.

I love what I do but completely understand that, like most people, you're probably not mad about the idea of having your picture taken. My aim is to put you and your family at ease, give you all a great experience and leave you with a set of beautiful images that will make you smile for years to come. Being a dad of two very wonderful kids myself I know how much this means.

Keeping it simple I offer a single pricing option of £75 (for shoots within 15 miles of Marlborough, Wiltshire) with the opportunity to purchase prints and products after your shoot.

Pre-shoot tips

The Session

We'll meet up on the day at your chosen location and have a chat just to recap what we're going to do.

During the session we'll structure things slightly, and then see what happens naturally. I'll give you advice about what to do - the general advice is not to worry about what your children are doing, leave that bit to me (no really...). Your children mostly need to be allowed to be themselves, to let their characters show - and I don't mind if a bit of craziness ensues! Kids expressions can be fleeting so you'll also need to be looking great/natural rather than trying to get your little ones to smile/look at the camera etc. If I'm totally honest though sometimes I DO need a little help in this regard, but we'll see how it goes on the day.

Also remember that older people might need a rest and somewhere to sit, a folding chair or two can save the day!

Clothing

There are no 'rules' when it comes to what to wear for your session. I'm more than happy to offer advice regarding clothing but in the end it's up to you, it's your session! Just remember, the photos are probably going to be on display for a long time and they should be making you smile for all the 'right' reasons...

The general rule is: the simpler the better. Wear what you're all comfortable with and don't be confined by your clothing. Depending on the overall idea and feel of your session you might want to think about trying to coordinate  the style of your outfits - if you're going for the casual look let everyone wear something casual and comfortable, think about colours that go together etc.

Remember, logos can date a photo, but equally can place it in a particular place and time, and you might want to bring a spare outfit for everyone, just in case.

Props and accessories aren't essential but can personalise your shoot - feel free to bring along whatever you like!

Babies and young children

Book your session for a time that suits your little ones - away from meal times, naps etc, although we will have enough time during the session for the kids to have a quick, easy snack if needed, or if your baby needs feeding.

Also, I'd suggest leaving it for a few days after immunisation appointments - and please feel free to bring along a favourite toy, but remember to keep it out of sight until we need it!

Let's go and have some fun!!
